The electrifying bassist and composer Joe Fonda has dazzled Charlottesville audiences many times over the years with a variety of different bands. This new Quartet’s unusual lineup includes Jeff Lederer on saxophone, Michael Rabinowitz on bassoon and Harvey Sorgen on drums.
An accomplished international jazz artist, Fonda has performed with his own ensembles throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. He has collaborated and performed with artists such as Anthony Braxton, Archie Shepp, Ken McIntyre, Lou Donaldson, Kenny Barron, Carla Bley, and Billy Bang. Fonda was the bassist with the renowned Anthony Braxton sextet from 1984 through 1999. As a composer, Fonda has been the recipient of grants from Meet the Composer and the New England Foundation on the Arts. He has performed in Charlottesville with The Fonda Stevens Group, Conference Call and The Eastern Boundary Quartet.
The Joe Fonda Quartet concert is made possible in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with The National Endowment for the Arts.
